Hmong Traditional Life (Story Cloth)

While in Salt Lake City we visited a museum that had a quilt art exhibit.  Mr. Vincent was excited to find two Hmong quilts.

To plant corns, to pick corns!

To wave alive chicken over the head of a wife.  To drag her to be his wife.

  1. I remember when I was little, my older cousin brought home a wife and my Father wouldn’t let them enter our house until he was able to bless them with a chicken. I would love to be able to stitch these designs as well as the more traditional ones but unfortunately, I was one of the American born Hmong girls who denied their culture. Now that I want to learn, I can’t because my Mother is old and my Mother in-law has no time. I really hope this part as well as everything about our culture does not die.
